Sleep studies measure brain waves, breathing, oxygen, movement, and heart rhythm to evaluate sleep disorders. Your clinician will recommend an in‑lab study (polysomnography) or a home sleep apnea test based on your symptoms.
Before your test
- Avoid naps and excess caffeine on the study day
- Bring comfortable sleepwear and your usual nighttime medications unless instructed otherwise
- Arrive early to allow for sensor setup
During the study
Technicians place sensors with gentle adhesive. You can change positions, and staff can assist with bathroom breaks. In home tests, a compact kit records breathing and oxygen at home.
